Getting rid of private business documents (that you no longer need) is an extremely important task that you can’t afford to overlook.
Since the new General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) came into play in May 2018, it is your legal responsibility as a business owner to protect people’s personal information.
If you’re found in breach of these regulations, you could receive a penalty fine of up to 4% of your business’s annual turnover, or £17.5 million – whichever is greater.
Confidential waste disposal will allow you to meet these requirements, as well as reassure your staff and clients that no trace of their personal data can be found and used without their consent.
If it’s your first time using our confidential waste services here at Doxbond, you likely have a couple of questions regarding what it is that we do and how we’re able to help.
We cover everything you need to know in this useful guide – taking you through the process step-by-step
We’re regularly asked how far our shredding sacks can be filled, and the answer is simple.
On the bag, you’ll find a fill line – but it can sometimes be a little misleading.
So long as a security tie can go around the top of the sack, the amount of waste in there doesn’t really matter.
You can also never have too many sacks, and if ever you need more, please don’t hesitate to ask our friendly team – who’ll arrive fully stocked with plenty of extras.
We won’t charge you for the sacks you don’t use, and you could even stock up for future use if a big office clear-out is somewhere on the cards!
Our customers often ask us what can and can’t go inside our shredding sacks.
Staples, metal clips, plastic sleeves and even lever arch files can all go through our shredder – as well as any tapes, computer disks, hard drives and laptops, but these must be sent to us in separate sacks so they can go through a special shredder.
If you’re planning on getting rid of any old laptops or work phones, it’s important to note that the battery must be removed beforehand, as they can cause fires in the shredding vehicle. And we won’t be able to accept any Apple products.
In the past, we’ve seen all sorts of weird and wonderful things in our shredding sacks, from hammers to large lumps of metal and even a can of Japanese lager ! – it goes without saying that these are items that we can’t take from you !
We understand how busy businesses can get sometimes – which is why we’re more than happy to come to you.
Before we come and collect your sacks, we ask you to please let us know where they’re being stored so that we’re able to take them off your hands promptly.
Your documents will be transported to our secure storage facility in Cambridge, where they’ll be shredded onsite according to British Industry Standards BS EN 15713.
With our confidential waste services, we always make sure that your documents are stored securely in metal cages until they can be shredded.
We list all the items that come off our vans and refer to your signed transfer notes, issued at the point of collection.
Your documents will never be held at our facility for more than 5 days, and everything we collect during the week will be securely destroyed on the Friday – with each cage overseen by our experts as it’s shredded.
Once your confidential documents, discs and hard drives have been shredded, we’ll provide you with a certificate of secure destruction – giving you the peace of mind that your documents have been completely destroyed.
